What's Live the Sheen Dream?

Live the Sheen Dream (www.livethesheendream.com) is a single-serving website featuring actor Charlie Sheen’s head and dozens of his bizarre quotes from interviews between Feb. 24 and March 4 2011. The site is simple: click Charlie Sheen’s head and a random quote pops up. Again and again. (And again.)

Live the Sheen Dream was created for one reason: to try and spread content quickly using social media. And it worked: since its launch on Feb. 26, Live the Sheen Dream has had over 2.5 million visits, 30+ million pageviews, 426,000 Facebook Likes, 16,200+ mentions on Twitter, and lots of earned media.

Alright, it's a quasi-case study. Either way, it takes a closer look at Live the Sheen Dream.

Charlie Sheen Reacts to Live the Sheen Dream

Charlie Sheen was asked about Live the Sheen Dream during his "last interview" on a Boston radio station. Even he's amazed he used Black Bart as an example.

Television Interviews

CBC Connect With Mark Kelly

Live the Sheen Dream on CNN

Crucial reporting from Jeanne Moos.

Breakfast Television Calgary

I also did interviews for Breakfast Television Winnipeg and Breakfast Television Toronto, but this one I barely had to get out of bed for.

Twitter

Favourite tweet? Luke Sullivan's "compliment." We had 16,200+ mentions on Twitter, but screen capturing all of those would have been tedious. And pointless.

Live the Sheen Dream T-Shirts

These t-shirts monetized Live the Sheen Dream for a week. There were over 25 designs by the time the party ended. I'd love to say how much we grossed, but that would be in bad form.

Copycat T-Shirts

The best is probably the second one. And by best I mean lazy and awful.

Copycat Websites

A day late and an idea short. We were first to market in a market that wasn't really a market.
